Part of providing good government is about effectively communicating with your community.

It’s about providing information, asking for feedback and listening to what the community has to say.

Council is committed to being open and accessible and ensuring community participation in decision making processes. Our community participation is built on a foundation of trust and respect for the members of our community, and focuses on ensuring equity and fairness in providing all services. At all times, our goal is to pursue the best interests of our community supported by maintaining our capacity to relate directly to the community.

We want to listen to and share ideas, knowledge and experience. Council encourages you to have your say on proposals and decisions about local or city-wide issues.

You can write a submission on a development application or on a Council policy or document that is put on public exhibition.

Join a Community Forum

All residents can become involved in decisions affecting their local area by attending a Community Forum. Contact details and meeting dates can be found at Community Forums.

Join a Residents Group

Resident Groups meet on a regular basis to discuss issues and concerns about their area. Contact details for each Resident Group can be found at Resident Groups.

Present a Public Voice session

Under certain circumstances Council allows residents and ratepayers the chance to voice opinions or concerns directly to Councillors at a Council meeting. Find out about how to apply for a Public Voice and download an application form at Public Voice.

Contact a Councillor or the Lord Mayor

Talk to your local Councillor or contact the Lord Mayor's office and speak to them about your issue or concern. Contact details for each Councillor can be found at Councillors.
