Cool down tonight with Art Sounds and Dancing in the Streets
5.30pm - 7.30pm Final instalment of Art Sounds
The successful Art Sounds program wraps up tonight at Hunter Institute of TAFE. Art Sounds was a free monthly event showcasing the diverse musical talent of Newcastle’s musicians in cultural spaces around the Civic Precinct. Feature musicians acoustic folk pop artists, The Scout followed by Mark Jackson and SQuidge playing contemporary folk and country.
6pm L!vesites presents Dancing in the Streets
Foreshore Park will be vibrating this Friday night with afro-beats and reggae from Afro Moses and the Spirit of Bob Marley for week two of Dancing in the Streets by L!vesites.
From 6pm – 9pm enjoy live music from the 10-piece band and learn some Jamaican Dancehall moves from Ishtar Morosi and the team from Pivot Dance Studio.
Saturday 21 November
Don’t forget there is FREE parking in the CBD
If you need to do some Christmas shopping but want to avoid the crowds at the suburban shopping centres, head in to town and enjoy FREE parking in the CBD. The free parking extends from Telford Street near Pacific Park to Wood Street at Newcastle West but time limits still apply. Check out the free parking map.
9am to 3.30pm Declutter at the Chemical Cleanout
Residents of Newcastle and surrounding areas have the opportunity to correctly and safely dispose of any unwanted household chemicals this weekend at a free drop off service.
Newcastle City Council, along with the NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water, will be holding a FREE household Chemical Collection on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November. Residents can drop off household quantities of unwanted chemicals at the Transpacific Industries Depot, Egret Street, Kooragang between 9:00am and 3:30pm.

10.30am Newcastle Region Art Gallery: Art for kids
The Gallery provides free hands-on art activities for young people every weekend. Art CART is sponsored by Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation. Bookings are not required.

The Gallery runs a free guided tour of current exhibitions. Meet the gallery guide at the front desk
1pm to 3pm Christmas Craft Workshops
L!vesites in conjunction with the Newcastle City Centre Committee and GPT are conducting FREE craft workshops at Shop 45, Hunter Street Mall. Recycled materials artist, Ken O’Regan will be teaching kids and adults to create sculptures that will be exhibited in the space in the lead up to Christmas. The sculptures will be on exhibitions throughout December and the official lighting of the exhibit will be held on Friday 4 December at 7.30pm.
8pm Live performance The Shape of Things
The Shape Of Things is a 21st Century look at love, art, marriage and friendship. This production features a talented young cast (Giverny Lewis, Carl Young, Rachel Jackett and Tim O'Donnell) and is directed by the current Artistic Director of youth company Tantrum Theatre, Brendan O’Connell. The performance is at the Playhouse and tickets cost $30 for adults and $20 concession.

Newcastle City Council will be taking it to the suburbs for the final time in 2009 with the last community consultation meeting being held tonight in Ward 1.

5.30pm Exhibition launch at Wallsend District Library
Materialising metaphors, an exhibition of textile art, will be officially opened at Wallsend District Library. The exhibition is presented by Newcastle Creative Embroiderers and Textile Artists and will be on display until 9 January 2010.
6pm to 8pm Newcastle Voice public meeting – Beaumont Street, Hamilton kerb extensions
The Newcastle Voice team with Hamilton Business District Committee will be hosting a public meeting to discuss the concept plan for kerb extensions in Beaumont Street, Hamilton. This plan was on public exhibition during August 2009. The meeting will be held at the Gallipoli Club, Beaumont Street, Hamilton and council officers will be on hand to discuss the proposal. 10.30am Newcastle Permanent Wacky Wombat session
Bring two to five year olds to New Lambton Library for the Wacky Wombat show. This is an entertaining literacy program that brings books to like using puppets, songs, craft and games. The performance The hour we knew nothing of each other will dazzle the audience as over 60 Tantrum performers play 450 characters communicating without words. There will be restrictions to access in Wheeler Place and surrounds during this time. The performance starts at 8pm and tickets are $25 for adults, $18 concession, $14 (5-15year olds) and kids under 5 are free.

5.30pm Friday Lovett Gallery official opening: Markers Mark
This Exhibition represents the arts and craft practice of the members of Hunter Arts Network. The exhibition includes: ceramics, glass, jewellery, metal work, textiles, printmaking, painting and collage. The exhibition coincides with next weekend’s ART BAZAAR in Laman Street and showcases local artists using traditional methods and artists who have pioneered their own techniques. Markers Mark will be on display until 9 January 2010 at the Lovett Gallery, 2nd floor, Newcastle Region Library.

Burn baby burn as Pacific Park is transformed into a disco inferno for the final Dancing in the Streets for 2009. Learn all the disco moves with Pivot Dance and get down to the funky beats by DJ Jonathon.
