The Gallery provides free hands-on art activities for young people every weekend. Art CART is sponsored by Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation. Bookings are not required.

8pm Live performance at Civic Theatre – Frank: A life in song
Smooth, sexy, funny and fresh, Tom Burlinson and his Big Band invite you to take flight for a magical evening of song. Inspired by his childhood hero Frank Sinatra, Burlinson takes a treasure chest of songs which became the soundtrack to the 1950s, 60s, 70s and beyond, and creates an unforgettable evening of blazing show-stoppers and melting ballads. The show is at Civic Theatre Newcastle and tickets cost: adult $78, concession $68, group (10+) $68

10.30am Newcastle Permanent Wacky Wombat session
Bring two to five year olds to City Library for the Wacky Wombat show. This is an entertaining literacy program that brings books to like using puppets, songs, craft and games. Monthly themes are presented by two experienced performers. The show costs $3 per child. Booking are essential call 4974 5342.
2.30pm Sustainability Street Talks
Sustainability Education officers will be stopping their bikes in the western neighbourhoods for Sustainability Street Talks. These informal gatherings in parks and local streets are to hear community ideas on improving the local environment as well as to provide information to residents about improving the comfort and sustainability of their homes. To walk our talk and aim for more sustainable transport, Council’s officers will be travelling to most of the scheduled talks on bikes and the train. This will help us to reach more people without increasing our own carbon footprint. Sustainability Education Officers will be at site for approximately 40 minutes.

6pm Art appreciation at the gallery
Newcastle Region Art Gallery presents an artist talk with Kate Rohde. Kate Rohde is in Newcastle to complete a short residency at The Lockup and as part of her program will present this talk at the Gallery. 10.30am Wacky Wombat Storytime
Introducing the Magic of books to children under five! Small numbers of children enjoy being read to in a casual informal atmosphere. Storytime is designed to introduce the magic of books to children. Storytime will be held at Wallsend District Library and is free. Bookings are essential call 4985 6680.
11am Remembrance Day Service
2009 marks the 91st anniversary of the end of the First World War. A Remembrance Day Service will be held at 11am at the cenotaph in Civic Park to commemorate the cessation of hostilities in 1918. A staggering 61,511 Australian soldiers were killed during the First World War.
Remembrance Day also acknowledges the sacrifice of every Australian Defence Force person who have lost their lives in service of our country in all wars and conflicts which includes the ongoing hostilities in Afghanistan, to protect our way of life.
Approximately 3,300 Australian Defence Force personnel are currently deployed to 13 operations overseas and within Australia to protect Australia and its national interests. There are 1,550 ADF personnel currently serving in Afghanistan as Australia’s contribution to the international coalition against terrorism.
Lord Mayor Cr John Tate and Merewether High School student Jacqueline Krynda will give addresses and a brass ensemble from Hunter School of the Performing Arts and Newcastle City Choir will be performing at the ceremony. All are welcome at the ceremony which will be hosted by the Newcastle District Council of RSL Sub-branches.
The service will the held at the Cenotaph, Civic Park, King Street, Newcastle. Wet weather venue is the stalls foyer Civic Theatre Newcastle.
5.15pm Mainstreet Program - Mayfield Mainstreet Committee

6pm Live performance at Civic Theatre – Renovate the Planet
Renovate the Planet is an environmental fundraising rock show, created by Col Hatchman for the Newcastle Community. Musicians include: Col Hatchman, Nathan Cavaleri, Ngariki, Dave Carter, Bob Corbett, Paul Elliot, Valhalla, The Protectors, Grant Walmsley and the guitar, bass, drums & vocal students of the Rockstitution.
All funds raised will be channelled through Together Today for environmental projects in 2010. The show is at Civic Theatre Newcastle and tickets cost: adult $30 / concession $25.
Friday 13 November
6pm L!vesites presents Dancing in the Streets
Salsa and Cha Cha to Wheeler Place for the first installment of L!vesites’ Dancing in the Streets. Dance with Ruedisima Dance Co and Zora’s Latin Dance and enjoy music by Chunky Salsa & Friends
7.30pm Live performance at Civic Theatre – One Man Star Wars
One Actor 40 characters 3 epic films! In this fast paced show Charles Ross brings to life all the characters from the original Star Wars trilogy live on stage! Imagine Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C3PO and Chewbacca – all on stage, all performed by just one actor. The show is at Civic Theatre Newcastle and tickets cost: adults $52, concession $44, groups 8+ $46, family (2 adults and 2 children) $175.
