Volunteering
Volunteers play an important role in the community. Their participation in community activities and programs contributes to the quality of life enjoyed by residents.
As with many other organisations, Newcastle City Council relies on volunteers to help with the provision of services and facilities for the community.
This involvement includes such activities as:
- Maintenance of recreational areas and sporting and community facilities
- Rehabilitation of natural resources
- Participation on advisory panels
- Local community management and participation in community forums.
Community Greening Centre
The Community Greening Centre encourages, supports and trains volunteers for a range of activities and projects.
Art Gallery
The Art Gallery coordinates volunteer guides who take members of the public on tours and explain exhibition works.
Blackbutt Reserve
Volunteers at Blackbutt engage in a range of activities including wildlife feeding, exhibit cleaning and maintenance, the Junior/Cadet Ranger Program and the daily management of the Pioneer Cottage and Information Centre.
Creeks Alive
Volunteers join in water bug surveys as part of the Creeks Alive program which looks at the health of local creeks in Newcastle.
Volunteer Protocol
The Volunteer Protocol was developed to provide a frame of reference for Council in its interaction with its many volunteers.
