Council Works

Newcastle City Council is working for you. Collecting garbage, fixing roads, running libraries, managing parks and delivering services.

Newcastle City Council is working for you to fix our city's roads, tend parks, provide services and make decisions that shape the future of our city.

This year we have doubled our spending on roads and drainage. We have allocated $1.4million to improving the management of our natural assets, including trees and water. And we are providing essential community services such as childcare, libraries and sports facilities.

Find out where your rates are going. Read about Council projects - both big and small. And talk to us about our services and activities. After all, we are working for you.

On the agenda

City Hall

Since 2000 Council has been investigating work required to restore City Hall. Visit our City Hall page for more information.

Newcastle Ocean Baths project update

The refurbishment of the Ocean Baths amenities including showers, toilets and accessible facilities is complete. The building conservation works are nearing completion and site sheds will be off site soon.

There is still some structural stabilisation work to be completed including the northern and southern swim clubs and the centre parapet. The works are in the design phase and funding for this work has been included in the DRAFT 2008/2009 Management Plan.

Road dedication project

Newcastle has approximately 4,400 roads/ lanes/ pathways within its LGA of which approximately 30% are not dedicated or of unknown status. This long running issue has led to problems related to Council powers, statutory functions and maintenance.

A project is currently being undertaken to establish those private roads/ lanes/ pathways for dedication by Council. Find out more about the road dedication project.

Road closures

We have made up a new page with information about road closures and traffic disruptions. Check out the latest road closure information.
