Topography map
Blackbutt Reserve consists of six ridge lines extending from Lambton Ridge at Lookout Road which run in a south easterly direction.
The Reserve has five intervening gullies and has an altitude range from approximately 30 metres to 150 metres. Steep escarpments occur at the head of the gullies.
A 30 metre conglomerate cliff surrounds the top of the most southern gully. Gullies throughout the Reserve tend to have steep sides, often resulting in sheer rock banks.
The rainforest gully in the southern most section of the Reserve is the only gully to contain a permanent stream. Other gullies tend to have dry creek beds for the major part of the year. However, all gullies contain semi permanent or permanent water bodies in the form of ponds, either artificially made or naturally occurring in the low reaches of the Reserve. Availability of water from these ponds is dependent upon the seasonal climatic conditions.
