Junior rangers program

Newcastle Permanent Blackbutt Reserve Junior/Cadet Ranger Program is an environmental education program which focuses on children aged 6-9 years (Junior Rangers) and 10-13 years (Cadet Rangers).

Sessions are conducted each weekday of school holidays for a 2 hour period.

Preserving the past, protecting the present and ensuring the future

Children are educated about the environment and wildlife in a naturalistic setting. The programs are based on environmental themes that support Blackbutt Reserve’s mission of preserving the past, protecting the present and ensuring the future.

Programs are developed, conducted and supervised by trained staff and volunteers with the addition of the occasional guest speaker.

Each program usually contains four elements:

  • An educational talk
  • A craft activity
  • A hands on activity
  • Games.

All participants receive a laminated name tag, participation certificate and a take home education pack. This pack contains activity sheets that support the program theme.

Costs:

  • $15 for the first child
  • $12 for the second child
  • $11 for each additional child thereafter.

Bookings for programs are taken one month prior to the program commencing. Details of program dates can be found on Council's Events Page.
