Blackbutt Reserve was once again the Winner of the Hunter Region Awards for Excellence in Tourism – Ecotourism Category in 2006.
It was a great honour to win this award three years running - 2004, 2005 and 2006. This award is a testament to all the hard work that is placed in the Reserve from staff and volunteers. Congratulations to everyone involved.
In November 2006, Blackbutt Reserve was named a finalist in the NSW State Tourism Awards. We were up against some tough competitors and it was great for Blackbutt to be listed up there with them.
Blackbutt Reserve is an oasis in the ever growing industrial Newcastle area. It is the ideal location to step away from the hectic city lifestyle and relax in the tranquil and peaceful environment that is only minutes from the city’s centre. Blackbutt Reserve embraces the concepts of ecotourism and strives to provide a location where visitors can enjoy the native wildlife and delve into the history of the area whilst having a minimum impact on the surrounding environment.
