Swimming pools
Newcastle City Council has five Swimming Centres available for daily use for up to 40 weeks of the year:

Lambton Swimming Centre (heated)
5.30 am to 6.00 pm - 17 March 2008 to 25 May 2008
Beresfield Swimming Centre (heated)
Mayfield Swimming Centre (non-heated)
Wallsend Swimming Centre (non-heated)
6.00 am to 6.00 pm - 17 March 2008 to 27 April 2008
Stockton Swimming Centre (heated)
6.00 am to 5.00 pm - 24 March 2008 to 27 April 2008

Pool safety
All Swimming Centres are supervised by professional lifeguards, trained to handle any emergency. Please keep these handy safety tips in mind when visiting our Centres:
- Don't run on concrete around the pool
- Always check the depth of the pool before getting in
- Never push or throw people into the pool
- Face masks and snorkels are not allowed at inland pools
- Don't swim or play under diving towers boards or slides
- Ball games only allowed in pool under supervision.

Activities
Learn to Swim classes are held at all Swimming Centres. These classes are organised by the Department of Sport and Recreation and the resident Swimming Clubs in some instances. SwimSafe Learn To Swim Program schedule 96 kb pdf.

Aquarobics classes are conducted at some Swimming Centres. Please contact your local Centre for enquiries.
Regular classes are held at Lambton Swimming Centre for those aged over 50. Please contact the Active Over 50's Co-ordinators at Hunter Health on 02 4921 4895 for more information and bookings.
Waterpolo & Springboard and Platform Diving are conducted at Lambton Swimming Centre on a regular basis. There is a 5 metre, 7 metre and 10 metre platform and two springboards available at the pool for Diving purposes. The 10metre tower and 3metre springboard are for trained divers and are not open to the general public. Contact Eric Brooker on mobile 0404 160294.
