Lifeguard patrol times
Council employed professional lifeguards are responsible for almost all patrols, excluding Sunday patrols during the Surf Life Saving season when Surf Club members provide voluntary patrols.
Council provides a roving mobile professional lifeguard service on Sundays during the 30 week peak period.
For your own safety, please swim only at patrolled beaches.
As winter approaches lifeguard services will change from Monday 17 March.
Lifeguard services from Monday to Saturday:
- Newcastle Beach from 7am to 5.30pm
- Nobbys Beach, Bar Beach, Dixon Park, Stockton & Merewether Beaches from 9am to 5.30pm
- Newcastle Ocean Baths & Merewether Ocean Baths will be patrolled between the hours of 9am & 5.30pm, subject to cleaning schedules
NOTE: Beaches are patrolled on Sundays by Surf Lifesaving Clubs from 9.00am to 5.00pm until 27 April 2008.
Merewether Ocean Baths
Merewether Baths are open all year round (subject to maintenance and cleaning). Merewether Ocean Baths are patrolled by Lifeguard 9.00 am to 5.30 pm from 29 September 2007 to 27 April 2007.
Newcastle Ocean Baths
Pool Open -
6.00 am to 9.00 pm - during Day Light Saving
6.00 am to 4.30 pm - Winter months 5 May 2008 to 24 August 2008
6.00 am to 6.00 pm - Rest of the year
